Obituary for Sharon Marie Newman (Van Lieu)
Sharon Newman (nee Van Lieu), 65, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 28th, 2019.
She is survived by; her husband Jon Newman, her children Suzanne (Rémy) Newman, Jessica (Steve) Hinderer, and Samuel Newman; her grandchildren, Liam & Grace Hinderer; her sister Nora (Marc) Anderson; her brothers Mark (Karen) Van Lieu, Tom Van Lieu & Bill Van Lieu; 10 nieces & nephews; her best friend Virginia Vaughn, and a host of long-time friends.
Sharon lived with her husband Jon for 14 years in Africa in Niger, Mozambique and Djibouti. Their children, Suzanne, Jessica and Samuel were born and raised there. While in Niger, Sharon worked on a program for expecting and nursing mothers at the hospital in Tahoua. In Mozambique, she took a position with UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, as a Project Manager working on programs to assist over a million Mozambicans displaced by the civil war.
Sharon was a person who made friends easily. People remember her for her lively personality, quick smile, her kind, loving and generous heart and of course, her chocolate chip cookies.
Sharon’s Celebration of Life & Love memorial service will be held at Brookside Gardens on Saturday, March 9th, 2019 at 1pm :: RSVP @ https://www.facebook.com/events/1713546705457150/
